Monarch's are poisonous because what they eat, milkweed, is poisonous.

Yeah, the bad guys know us and they leave us alone...

Many of the other butterflies and moths mimic the looks of the Monarch, from the colors and spots on the fully-formed wings to the gold metallic ring around the top of the chrysalis (which, in itself seems like a miracle. More here.) 

I don't know why I am telling you this. Mostly I am tired and out of metaphors. Maybe you know the answer and can tell me in the comments below.
