Grateful For What We Have?

We are supposed to be grateful for what we have. You know, for what we do have, without lingering over what we don't have. And I get that. 

But how do we cope and deal and make space for and feel grateful for the things we have, when the things we have are trauma or loss or sadness or _________________  (fill in the blank).
